CIOs are on the horizon

Countdown to April 2011

It looks as though CIOs (Charity Incorporated Organisations) are going to be with us soon. In England, the Charity Commission have announced that, subject to Cabinet Office approval and Parliamentary time, the first CIOs could be formed as soon as April 2011.

In Scotland there is a similar timetable.

Existing charities which are limited by guarantee, and unincorporated charities will then have to decide whether to convert to a CIO. There will be arguments for and against, and we hope to be offering an advice service on this subject in the near future.

We also hope to be offering a service to make the formal transition process as painless and as easy as possible.
